Menstrual swimsuits are a great combination of technology and fashion, designed to provide maximum comfort and protection during menstruation. These swimsuits contain a special insert that absorbs bleeding and keeps moisture inside. Thanks to the impermeable layer, blood cannot easily escape, ensuring that you do not have to worry about leaks.
At the same time, the outer fabric's waterproof layer prevents water absorption from the pool or sea, so the swimsuit does not wash out into the surrounding water. This innovative design allows women to enjoy water activities without worry. Compared to popular menstrual panties, the difference is mainly in the treatment of the fabric and seams against the absorption of water from the pool and sea, and the discreet design.
Menstrual swimsuits are available in several styles: SW1 (classic swimwear – bikini), SW2 (shorts), SW3 (with skirt), SW4 (one-piece swimsuit), and SW5 (swimwear top – bra).
How to care for menstrual swimwear?
Swimwear should be worn for no longer than 12 hours. Then either put them straight into the washing machine, rinse them thoroughly with water, put them in the washing machine, or wash them by hand. If your period is light or after rinsing with water, you can wash them with other laundry. It is important to avoid using fabric softener, which could damage the absorbent layers, and wash at 40°C.
Let the swimwear air dry, avoid drying in a dryer (the exception is modern dryers with a special program for functional clothing). Unlike menstrual panties, you can dry them in the sun but hang them loosely. The drying temperature should not exceed 50°C (the temperature at which you can still hold your hand on the heat source).
Lifespan of menstrual swimsuits:
Unlike menstrual panties, swimsuits have a shorter lifespan because the protective layer against water absorption lasts for about one season. You will know this by noticing that the swimsuit starts to absorb water.
Tips for using menstrual swimsuits:
- For lighter periods: Swimsuits can be worn alone and provide sufficient protection.
- For heavier menstruation: In the pool, it is recommended to combine swimsuits with a tampon or menstrual cup for maximum safety and hygiene. You don't have to worry about this in the sea, just replace them with washed ones in time if your menstruation is heavy.
- Style and Discretion: LUNAcare menstrual swimsuits are thin, discreet and look like regular swimsuits. You won't notice they're menstrual at first glance, which adds to your comfort and confidence.
Benefits of menstrual swimwear:
- Safety and protection: A special absorbent pad ensures that blood stays inside, minimizing the risk of leakage. The impermeable layer provides security when moving and swimming.
- Comfort: The swimsuit is designed to conform to the shape of the body, allowing for comfortable and unrestricted movement. It is thin and comfortable, so you feel like you are wearing a regular swimsuit.
- Environment: Menstrual swimsuits are a sustainable alternative to disposable sanitary products. They can be washed and reused, which reduces waste and is environmentally friendly.
Risks of menstrual swimwear
Swimsuits work very reliably and have a high capacity. However, their reliability decreases over time. At first, you will be confident and comfortable even with heavy menstruation, but over time, minor leaks may occur. With light menstruation, this will not be a problem. Use them wisely and with consideration for others. Make full use of swimsuits on a seaside holiday, they are ideal for this. In closed pools only during light menstruation and limit the time in the water. We do not recommend using menstrual swimsuits in hot tubs. Air bubbles often inflate the swimsuit and the swirling water could lift and partially wash away the trapped menstrual blood.
If you want to have complete freedom while swimming, playing, and moving in the water, we recommend a menstrual cup. The menstrual cup works equally well in dry and water, unlike a tampon, nothing is visible and does not soak up water and has a high capacity that is not at risk of soaking when in the water.
