How to make inserting and removing a menstrual cup easier

How to make inserting and removing a menstrual cup easier

You’re holding your LUNACUP and wondering: How is this supposed to work? Don’t worry. Inserting a menstrual cup is easier than you think. With the right technique, it will work immediately. And with a little practice, it will become routine.

Preparation: How to make it easy for yourself

Before you insert the menstrual cup, wash your hands thoroughly. Relax. It’s best to try it for the first time at home in peace – not in a public restroom. You can stand, squat, or place one leg on the edge of the bathtub. Find the position that feels natural to you.

The best folding techniques

Before you insert the LUNACUP, you need to fold it. Here are the most popular methods:

C-Fold (easiest)

Press the rim together and fold the cup in half. It now looks like a C. This is the standard method and most intuitive for beginners.

Punch-Down Fold (smallest tip)

Press one point on the rim inwards and hold it firmly. This makes the insertion tip smaller than with the C-Fold. Ideal if you need it to be particularly narrow.

7-Fold

Press the rim together and fold one side diagonally downwards to form a 7. A good compromise between size and easy popping open.

Step by step: Inserting a menstrual cup

  1. Fold the LUNACUP using your preferred technique
  2. Relax your pelvic floor – breathe deeply in and out
  3. Insert – gently slide the folded cup into your vagina, with the opening facing upwards
  4. Release – the cup will unfold and create a seal
  5. Check the fit – run your finger around the cup. Do you feel the rim all around? Then it’s seated correctly.

If the cup doesn't fully unfold, rotate it slightly or gently press on the base. You should hear or feel a soft pop.

How to remove your LUNACUP

Removing it is just as easy – if you do it right:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Relax your pelvic floor
  3. Grasp the base – do not pull on the stem! Hold the cup at the bottom
  4. Gently squeeze – this releases the seal
  5. Carefully pull out – keep it upright so nothing spills
  6. Empty, rinse, done

The most common beginner mistakes

Pulling on the stem: The stem is only there to help you locate the cup, not to pull it out. Always grasp the base.

Being too quick: Take your time. Stress tightens the pelvic floor and makes insertion more difficult.

Incorrect position: The cup sits lower than a tampon. It doesn't need to reach the cervix.

Tips for the perfect fit

A few tricks to help you:

  • A little water on the rim – makes insertion smoother
  • Practice without your period first – this way you can get used to the feeling in peace
  • Try different folding techniques – every woman has her favorite method
  • Give yourself 2-3 cycles – most women need some practice

The LUNACUP, made from medical-grade silicone, is flexible and adapts to your body. After a few tries, you won't even think about it anymore. We promise.
