First Days with a Menstrual Cup – What You Need to Know
Your first cycle with a menstrual cup is exciting. And maybe a little intimidating. That's completely normal. Every woman who is enthusiastic about her cup today started exactly like you. Here's what to expect and how to master the adjustment period.
Day 1: Getting Acquainted
Take the LUNACUP out of its packaging and examine it closely. Feel the medical-grade silicone. Try out different folding techniques – without inserting it yet. The C-fold is the easiest for most beginners.
Sterilize your cup before first use: 5-7 minutes in boiling water. Done.
The First Insertion
It's best to try it calmly at home. Not under time pressure, not at work. Relax your pelvic floor, fold the cup, and gently insert it.
Important: If it doesn't work the first time, there's no reason to give up. Take a breath, take a break, and try again later. Most women need a few attempts.
The First Few Hours
The LUNACUP is correctly in place if you don't feel it. At first, you might still think about it often – that's normal. As a precaution, wear a panty liner as a backup. This way, you can calmly test if everything is leak-proof.
After 2-3 hours, check if everything is in place. Over time, you'll build the confidence to wear the cup for its full 12 hours.
Common Experiences in the First Week
- Slight pressure sensation: Usually disappears after a few hours. If not, the cup is sitting too high or too low.
- Small leaks: The cup hasn't fully unfolded. Briefly press the base or rotate it slightly.
- Difficult removal: Don't pull the stem! Relax, grasp the base, and gently squeeze.
Give Yourself Time
Most women need 2-3 cycles to feel completely confident with their menstrual cup. This is not a sign that something is wrong – it's a normal learning process. Your body needs to get used to the new sensation.
Your First Weekend with LUNACUP
Plan your first cup weekend to be consciously relaxed. No marathon, no beach vacation. Just your normal everyday life with the knowledge: you are learning something new. And soon you'll wonder why you didn't switch sooner.
Thousands of women have made this switch. Every single one started small. And most of them say: I'm never going back to tampons.
